In addition to our YorkU Summer Abroad Courses, students can participate in the following summer school programs through a Letter of Permission (LOP). Please note: to ensure your Letter of Permission request is processed in time for the Spring/Summer term, applications should be sent at least six weeks prior to the first day of enrolment.

The Chinese University of Hong Kong
The Chinese University of Hong Kong is proud to offer 3 courses:

  • June Session (4-24 June) offers courses in business and China Studies from culture to religion and from tradition to media and social development.
  • July Session (28 June-1 August) has a rich course offering in business, China Studies, Chinese language (Putonghua and Cantonese), engineering, environmental studies, humanities and social science. An optional Beijing tour (3-6 August) is also available to those wanting to explore the capital.
  • August Session (5-26 August) challenges students with intensive Putonghua and English training over a three-week period. Field trips to Macau, Shenzhen or different cultural sites in Hong Kong are organized for language practice.

Meiji University, Japan

NEW! Meiji University will hold two unique short-term programs (in English) for international students in summer 2017

Cool Japan will be held from July 21 - Aug 2, 2017. This is a 13 day program, comprised of a series of lectures, workshops and field trips on a wide variety of subjects relating to Japan's contemporary images -- from manga, anime and music, to fashion, the latest technology and cuisine. We will investigate the diverse aspects of Japanese society and uncover their underlying traditional elements as well.
English will be used throughout the course, so Japanese Language ability is not required.

Law in Japan is an intensive two-week program is designed for foreign nationals who would like to study Japanese law in its social and cultural context. The program consists of lectures and field trips. Each lecture will present a number of important contemporary issues for discussion. Participants will also learn how the law is actually practiced through the field trips. We welcome applications from both law and non-law backgrounds. No previous knowledge of Japanese Law / Language is required to participate in this program.

Shanghai University of Finance and Economics

NEW! The Shanghai International Summer School (SISS) offers students the opportunity to study abroad this summer from June 26 to July 25, 2017.

Nagoya University

NEW! Nagoya University is pleased to announce their new  Short-Term Japanese Program (NUSTEP) for Summer 2017 and Spring 2018.

The Nagoya University Short-Term Japanese Language Program (NUSTEP) offers two week of intensive Japanese classes. Participants will join specialized lectures by faculty and visit some of the laboratories on campus. We aim to promote a greater understanding of Japanese culture and society. The program also provides various on and off-campus activities such as cultural excursions, field trips, exchanges and discussions with Nagoya University students. European Cultural Centre

NEW! The European Cultural Academy - a short-term program that aims to enhance knowledge and advance students’ careers in Art, Architecture and other Creative Industries. European Cultural Academy emphasizes practical solutions. Students get behind the scenes of the Biennale and learn how to organize exhibitions, collateral events and collaborate with governments, artists, press and sponsors. At the end of the course participants create a real project (e.g. exhibition project, art work, publication, event etc.) that might be added to their portfolio/CV and have a possibility to present it to public.

Hochschule Darmstadt

NEW! The International Summer University (ISU) 2017 at Darmstadt University of Applied Sciences on “Energy Efficient and Smart Building Infrastructure Systems” is taking place from July 16 until August 12, 2017.

The academic module, which is organized and to be taught by the vice dean and a professor from the Department of Electrical Engineering and Information Technology, will focus on two main topics:

  1. Smart homes and including: targets of building automation, such as comfort, efficiency and security/safety.
  2. German Energiewende, which will focus on energy supply, energy distribution and energy consumption.

The module on smart building infrastructure systems will also contain a one-week academic excursion to Cologne.

In addition, students will attend a German language class that is organized by the Language Center. Excursions to different cities in the state of Hessen and other leisure activities complement the program (refer to the schedule of classes)

University of California, Davis 

Greentrek is partnering with the University of California Davis to organize the Sustainable Ecuador summer abroad program in 2017. 

This program examines the historical development and current situation of Ecuador’s indigenous peoples, with special emphasis on environmental sustainability issues. Through lectures, seminar discussions, and fieldwork, the program underscores the impact that economic and political factors have on the process of indigenous cultural adaptation.

Aeronautic Aerospace Automotive Railway Engineering School (ESTACA)

 NEW! ESTACA offers a Summer Program in CFD Applications in Aeronautical Engineering in July 2017.

The aim of this program is to learn and operate CFD (Computational Fluid Dynamics) tools to understand and predict aeronautical systems. The Summer Program in CFD Applications in Aeronautical Engineering give the opportunity to students to develop their skills and competences.

This curriculum combines the teaching of industrially relevant computational software and methods within a multicultural environment:

  • Program taught in English
  • Professors, lecturers and teachers from the industrial field
  • 100 hours of academic coursework, conference and visits.

As well as experiencing French culture, students will develop their skills in fluid mechanics in the aeronautical applications, CFD simulation and design process.
