Going on Exchange

Welcome to the Go Global Exchange page!

Below you will find all the necessary information relating to a York International Exchange. You must attend one of our mandatory Exchange Information Sessions to apply for an exchange.

Here at York International we want to help York students internationalize their degree and make the most of their time at York! As a York University student you have the opportunity to spend one term or a year studying abroad!

Glendon College, Schulich School of Business and Osgoode Hall Law School also facilitate their own exchange opportunities for students within their departments.

A Few Quick Facts:

    • Credits earned abroad can be applied towards a York degree.
    • Tuition is paid to York University (not the host institution).
    • The language of instruction is English, unless otherwise stated.
    • You can go on exchange for just one term or a whole year.

Information Sessions

The first step to go on Exchange is to attend one of our mandatory Exchange Information Sessions!

Why attend an Information Session?

    • Find out more information.
    • Ask questions.
    • Meet previous exchange students.
    • Receive the code to access our online application.
    • Meet our Global Learning reps who are here to help!

The deadline to apply for a York International Exchange for the 2016-17 academic year has passed. Please check back in September for application information for the 2017-18 academic year and to register for an information session.

    • Undergraduate students in an Honours program and graduate students of any discipline. (Excluding Schulich Students)
    • Students who have a minimum B average (6.0 GPA).
    • It is recommended that you apply during your second year to spend your third year abroad.
    • Some exchanges are restricted to certain disciplines.
    • Glendon and Osgoode students may apply for their department facilitated exchanges and/or a York International Exchange.
Please Note:
    • If you are applying to an institution where the language of instruction is NOT English you will need to be proficient in the host language.
    • Part-time students at York may participate, however, you must study full-time while abroad.
    • It is preferred that you study abroad for your third year of study as students finishing their first year of studies often do not have the prerequisites to pursue studies at the host institute. Those in their final year have less flexibility in course selection and may have difficulties finding courses abroad.

Students will be notified if they have been selected for an Exchange in March-April.

Selection is based on:

    • Academic Ability
    • Seriousness of Interest
    • Personal Adaptability
    • Suitability of the host institution’s program for degree requirements
    • Participation in university and community life.

York International currently has exchange agreements with 128 institutions in 43 different countries! To see a full list of where you can go on exchange please click here.
