Position Description: The intern, working under the direction of the COTERC station manager at the Caño Palma Biological Station, will continue the established comparative transects used in the large mammal monitoring program (includes surveys of neotropical river otters). The intern will work in coordination with the station manager and research coordinator to maintain the transects and with routine data collection for tracks on these transects.     Ontario/Rhône Alpes Summer Research Program

    Teaching Assistant Program

    Organization: Teaching Assistant Program

    Overview: This program is a joint initiative of the French Ministry of Education, France Education International (formerly known as CIEP), and the Cultural Services of the French Embassy in Canada. The program’s goal is to strengthen English-language instruction in French schools by establishing a native speaker presence, while also providing Canadian Francophiles with an excellent teaching experience abroad and first-hand knowledge of French language and culture.

    When Can You Go

    • Duration: 7 months

    Eligibility Requirements

    • Canadian citizenship or citizen of a country participating in the program and in possession of a Canadian permanent resident card
    • English as a first language
    • Aged between 20 and 35 years old at the beginning of the program (Oct.1st each year)
    • Intermediate proficiency in French (minimum B1 level)
    • Completion of at least 2 years of university studies on the application date
    • Mostly schooled in Canada (up to high school)
    • Proof of motivation and French proficiency level provided by a current or former university teacher

    Job Duties

    • Assistants teach a minimum of 12 hours per week in up to 3 schools (close location to one another). Classes are conducted mostly in English. Teaching assistants conduct all of a class with a referent teacher or part of the class, independently.
    • Typical duties include serving as a resource person in conversation groups, providing small group/individual tutorials, introducing students to Canadian culture and history as well as facilitating cultural understanding between France and Canada. Assignments vary depending on the school’s needs and the assistant’s abilities.
    • Contracts are available at two different school levels:
      • Elementary School: children aged 8-11 years old
      • Secondary School: students aged 11-18 years old.

    Goethe Research Experience Program

    Overview: Goethe Research Experience Programme (GREP) offers fellowships for advanced undergraduate and master students of high academic standing to gain cutting-edge research experience in one of Goethe University’s multidisciplinary profile areas of research. Students can benefit from individual supervision by excellent researchers, build their own research network, and strengthen their academic and intercultural competencies through working and studying with professionals and students from all over the world.

    Research Details

    • Research projects are available in the research profile areas at GU in the scientific fields of life, natural and social sciences, and humanities
    • Students are placed in an established research group and conduct their own research under close mentoring and supervision by research staff at GU
    • Students can pursue an individual research project, e.g. in preparation for their final thesis (2-3 months)
    • Students from natural and life sciences can complete a laboratory visit as part of a mandatory elective module in specific degree programs at GU (2-3 months)
    • Students can write their final thesis under dual supervision by the home institution and GU (3-6 months)
    • Students discuss their research results in a final paper and oral presentation at the end of their stay

    • Bachelor or Master level student status at the time of application (fall intake will only be open to Master's students)
    • Good to very good academic standing (GPA of 3.0; on a 4.0 U.S. scale)
    • Strong research interest matching the selected research project

    Location : Germany

    Overview: The Ontario/Baden-Württemberg Summer Research Program is open to Ontario graduate and undergraduate students in science, engineering, and health science disciplines. Each successful applicant will spend two to three calendar months in the summer at a university in Baden-Württemberg engaged in research projects relevant to their studies in Ontario.

    Timing: 2 or 3 months during the summer

    Eligibility: Undergraduate and graduate students in science, engineering, and health science disciplines

    Language Competence: No German-language prerequisite (with the agreement of the host professor)

    Research Internships in Science and Engineering (RISE)- DAAD

    RISE stands for Research Internships in Science and Engineering. RISE Germany offers undergraduate students from North American, British and Irish universities the opportunity to complete a summer research internship at top German universities and research institutions. RISE Germany is funded by the German Federal Foreign Office (DAAD). Students are matched with a host university or institute according to their area of interest (biology, chemistry, physics, earth sciences, engineering, or a closely related field).

    Eligibility:

    • be currently enrolled at a university/college at York as undergraduate student in the field of biology, chemistry, computer science, physics, earth sciences or engineering (or a closely related field)
    • be an undergraduate who will have completed at least 2 years of a degree program by the time of the internship placement
    • prove that you will maintain undergraduate status after the internship has taken place

    Benefits: DAAD provides students a monthly stipend for three months to help cover living expenses (up to a monthly scholarship of 992 Euros for full month)

    Language of Internship: German language is not required and the working language will be in English

    Recorded Webinar on DAAD Programs for Students from Canada in the Natural Sciences & Engineering:

    There are only few scholarship programs offering a working experience abroad. RISE Professional matches North American, British or Irish interns with German companies and with non-university research institution that have a strong reference to industry.

    Eligibility:

    • be enrolled in a Master’s or Ph.D. program at York (at the time of the internship) in the fields of Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Computer Science, Earth Science or Engineering (or a closely related field)
    • Depending on the internship, recent graduates are also eligible to apply, requirement is that the graduation date is no more than 7 months ago at the time of application
    • Students must be in the country for at least 12 months at the time of application
    • German language requirements depend on the nature of the internship. Some require at least an intermediate level of German language skills while others require none at all

    Benefits: Due to the German law and minimum wage regulations, there are different options of payment for your internship.

    1. Applies to enrolled students with an internship duration up to 3 months AND students of mandatory internships up to 6 months: Proof of enrollment (and optional proof of a mandatory internship) must be submitted.
      DAAD provides you with a monthly scholarship of 492 Euros for Bachelor and Master students and 800 Euros for Ph.D. students. The hosting Company has to pay you additional 500 Euros net per month.
    2. Applies to enrolled students with internships longer than 3 months (up to 6 months) AND to recent graduates: The company has to pay you the minimum wage (12,82 Euro/h before tax) for the entire duration (Minimum wage)

    Duration: An internship is possible for a period up to six months between May 15 and December 31.

    Application: he application is submitted completely online through the RISE Professional database. Please check the list of application documents you must submit in the  application portal. The internship database opens between October 15 and  November 30.

    The session provides details on funding programs in Germany for students from the Natural Sciences or Engineering. It includes details on programs in support of internships (including RISE Germany – Globalink and RISE Professional), research stays and study.


    Greece

    • The Canadian Institute in Greece (CIG) is a privately-funded, not-for-profit organization, incorporated in Canada, which seeks to promote Canadian research and education in fields relating to Greece’s heritage.
    • The Institute advances knowledge of Greece in all periods by sponsoring and promoting archaeological fieldwork, providing resources for scholarly research, and disseminating results. The Institute is also charged by the Hellenic Ministry of Culture with primary responsibility for all Canadian archaeological fieldwork projects, and seeks to support the investigation, preservation, and presentation of Greece’s cultural heritage.
    • The Institute promotes research in all aspects of ancient, Byzantine and modern Greek studies, including classics, history, art history, anthropology and the fine arts. This is achieved through:
      • an academic programme of seminars, lectures, and conferences;
      • the provision of services for its members, including applications for study and fieldwork permits;
      • advice on the development of research programmes; access to accommodation and library facilities in Athens;
      • the provision of fellowships for graduate and post-doctoral research in Greece, and internships for undergraduate and graduate students to experience academic life in Athens through the services of CIG.

    The Gori Collection of Site Specific Art

    Organization: The Gori Collection of Site-Specific Art

    Overview:

    • The Gori Collection located at the Fattoria di Celle i Santomato di Pistoia is the world's first private collection devoted to site specific art.
    • Begun in the early '80s the property now counts about 80 installations of which some 50 are situated either in the English-style romantic garden or among the vineyards and olive groves of the farm.
    • Interns must learn about all the works in order to guide the tours we offer free of charge to visitors on a daily basis.
    • Most tours are in Italian, the official language of the internship, although we occasionally have English-speaking guests.
    • A candidate for the internship must have a decent working knowledge of Italian, enjoy long walks and being with people.
    • When not guiding tours, interns are welcome in the office to help our staff organize events and communication.

    • Preferred: studies of art history or the visual arts (contemporary preferred), a decent knowledge of Italian language and a desire to better speaking and understanding skills, basic computer literacy.

    Kenya

    Nasio Trust in Kenya (Musanda): Education, Healthcare, and Sustainable Livelihood

    Location: Kakamega County, Kenya

    Type of Placement: in-person, unpaid position

    Overview: The Nasio Trust is a UK registered charity (No. 1104542) and Kenyan NGO which supports orphaned and vulnerable children and empowers communities in Kakamega County, Kenya to break the cycle of poverty and thrive, by focusing on three key strands – Education, Healthcare, and Sustainable Livelihoods.
    The charity started as a road side kiosk in Mumias, Kenya in 2001 when an abandoned baby was found on the roadside during the HIV/AIDS pandemic. The charity has since grown to consutrct two Early Childhood Development Centres and a medical centre. Its programmes and activities emerge from the needs of the community in Mumias West, and is reactive to any crises they may face.

    Position Description: Global Health Internship

    Duration: 4 weeks (06 July, 2026- 02 August, 2026)

    Eligibility requirements: We do not have an academic programme criterion for our placement projects and students from any department and stream are welcome to apply. Selected students usually have one or more of the following:

    • Experience of working on child or maternal health
    • Interest or expertise in international development
    • Experience of working with a charity in a different cultural context
    • Proficiency in long-form writing
    • Good verbal and presentation skills

    Housing/ Accomodation: Housing will be provided. The Nasio Trust has its own guesthouse at its headquarters in Musanda, a few hundred metres away from its offices, Early Childhood Development Centre and Medical Centre. All three meals (breakfast, lunch, dinner) will be provided at the guesthouse in addition to utilities such as laundry services, WiFi, and flushable toilets.

    Associated Costs: While typically selected interns face no additional charge for staying and working with Nasio, we recommend a donation of £500 if funding is available to meet accommodation and food costs for the placement period. This is only a recommendation to ensure the sustainability of the charity's projects and has no implication on the selection process.

    • EcoSwell is a multiple award winning for impact non-profit focussed on implementing sustainability projects in vulnerable communities of Peru. Previous York University students who have taken part in their volunteer internship programme have described their time at EcoSwell as transformational and life altering.
    • Located in the surf paradise of Lobitos, in northern Peru (the land of endless summer), volunteer interns are able to apply to a variety of disciplines, including: Renewable Energy, Reforestation & Nature Conservation, NGO Management, Public Health, Research and Water & Sanitation. Participants make a financial contribution to take part in the EcoSwell volunteer internship.
    • This contribution covers their accommodation, all meals, team supervision and support, local transport. This financial contribution also helps cover project costs, thus financing the impact the organization has on the communities it serves.

    • Housing Provided: Rooms are shared with other volunteer interns at the EcoHouse which is located at 200m from the sea. The EcoHouse is very much characterised as a work hard and play hard base, with a very positive vibe. All meals are provided, and fun activites are organised for after work hours

    Spain

    North American Language and Culture Assistants Program in Spain (NALCAP), The Education Office of the Embassy of Spain

    Internship Description

    • Encouraging students to broaden their knowledge of your language and culture
    • Plan and conduct activities that focus on the English language and Canadian culture, such as listening and speaking activities, role plays, or games for your students
    • Lead these activities in class, with either the teacher or a smaller group of students in a different classroom.
    • Possibly participate in the teaching of other school subjects in English, such as science, social studies, technology and art – always under the guidance of the classroom teacher.

    Type of placement: In-Person (offered yearly): NALCAP is an international exchange program. As such, you are considered to be a cultural ambassador representing Canada in Spain. It is important that your experience in Spain reflects this role.

    Eligibility

    • Be a Canadian citizen and have a valid Canadian passport through the date of the last day of your participation in the program (May 31st, 2026, in all of Spain except for Madrid, which is June 30th, 2026)
    • Be enrolled as a sophomore, junior or senior in a BA or BS program
    • Be a native-like speaker of English
    • Be in good physical and mental health(required when applying for a visa)
    • Have a clean background check (required when applying for a visa)
    • Aged between 18-60. You must be 18 years old as of January 1, 2025, and not be 60 or over on January 1, 2026, to participate in the program.

    Duration and stipend

    • Placements are run from October to May for most assignments (8 months)
    • Hours of teaching: 14 –16 hours per week (depending on assignments)
    • A monthly stipend of about 800 -1000€ depending on the region of Spain that you are assigned. You may supplement this grant with private tutoring of English classes for up to 30 hours per week

    ThinkSwiss Research Scholarships

    Overview:
    About ThinkSwiss: This is a scholarship program funded by the State Secretariat for Education, Research and Innovation (SERI). It is managed by the Office of Science, Technology and Higher \Education at the Embassy of Switzerland in Washington, D.C. and supported by the Embassy of Switzerland in Ottawa, Canada. The aim of the program is to promote research opportunities in Switzerland for U.S. and Canadian students and to foster exchange between Swiss, U.S., and Canadian universities and research institutions.

    Eligibility Requirements:

    • Currently be enrolled at an accredited U.S. or Canadian university/college
    • Be a graduate student or an undergraduate student who will have completed their sophomore year by the time the research stay in Switzerland begins
    • Provide a written confirmation from a professor at a Swiss university that they will accept you for a research stay in their group.

    Application:
    Upload all supporting documents in PDF format to us by mid-January 2026 for review. Then, submit the documents to ThinkSwiss later.

    1. A research project outline (e.g. an overview of the tasks and milestones of your project that you agreed on with your host professor, max. 2 pages single-spaced, and keep in mind, your audience are educated readers but not necessarily experts in your field)
