One of the main objectives of this conference was to mobilize multistakeholder support to the topics and themes of education for sustainable development and inclusive internationalization as well as gender. Youth is one of these important stakeholders and the SOTG 2022 partners were committed to engaging and integrating them to be part of the conference as active participants. The United Nations and many other organizations have stressed the importance of involving and giving agency to Youth in matters that will impact their generations and the SOTG 2022 aimed to create a practical approach to respond to the quest for engaging with young voices.
The Youth Engagement Program aimed to provide young participants with an inclusive and space to participate, actively engage and creatively contribute to the themes of the conference while giving them agency in a meaningful way with measurable and potentially scalable outcomes.
The Youth Engagement Program had four main objectives:
- Provide Youth with a space to fully participate, actively engage and creatively contribute to the themes of the Sustainable on the Go (SOTG 2022) Conference.
- Give Youth agency (e.g., an active role) for the SOTG 2022 Conference in a meaningful way with measurable, potentially scalable outcomes.
- Provide Youth with the appropriate training and mentoring to enable them to participate and co-facilitate sessions at the SOTG 2022 Conference.
- Develop, document, and share successful Youth Engagement practices.
