Looking to enhance your employability while expanding your professional and social network and build a strong community? The International Engagement Champion (IEC) volunteer role offers the perfect stepping stone. In this position, you will play a key role in supporting the planning, execution, facilitation and engagement of social and academic events—both in-person and virtual—hosted by York International.
This opportunity is ideal for students seeking to build their skills in communication, event planning, and administration. You will work alongside a diverse community of students and staff, broadening your network and gaining valuable experience.
Time Commitment
- Attend mandatory welcome training session
- Participate in midway check-in and end of term connections
- Register Event Support to work 2 events per month throughout the term
- Actively engage on E-class, WhatsApp and team communication channels
Qualifications
- Current York University student (preferably having completed at least one academic term)
- General knowledge of York International programs, events, services and global learning opportunities
- Willingness and availability to volunteer during scheduled York International events (such as but not limited to Coffee Break, Grad, Hub, SIN Clinics, Orientation, Neighbourhood Exploration and more)

Event Support
Sign up for specific event-day shifts to help bring York International events to life. Responsibilities may include setup, navigation, registration, greeting attendees, and actively participating to ensure a welcoming and smooth student experience.
Event Planner
Optional enhancement opportunity.
Take your leadership and planning skills to the next level by opting into the Event Planner role. By submitting your availability for specific programs and dates, you’ll join a planning team to:
- Contribute to the development of event content and activities
- Participate in idea workshops and brainstorming sessions
- Support the facilitation of activities during events
This is an excellent opportunity to deepen your engagement, enhance your employability, and gain hands-on experience in event coordination and program development.
Programs and Events
As a volunteer, you will get the chance to help out at a wide variety of events like Orientation, the International Student Career Ready Conference, the English Conversation Partners Program and the Year-End Celebration, to smaller, more focused sessions. These could include academic support workshops, virtual information sessions or fun social hangouts. We also collaborate with other student clubs and campus departments that need volunteers to find new opportunities. There is always something happening, and always a new way to get involved!
Application Process:
The main hiring process takes place mid-June for the fall/winter term and mid-February for the summer term. However, the application form is open year-round should we need to increase our team on a rolling basis. You will be required to submit a cover letter, resume and participate in a group interview.
