Supports for Students

Available Supports

Whether it’s counselling or other mental health supports, academic advising, financial support or others, we encourage you to use these resources as you need:

    • Financial Support – Please ensure you fill out your Student Financial Profile. This will ensure you are automatically considered for the International Student Bursary (up to $1500 per semester).  If you need additional support, please reach out to York International at intlstudentquestions@yorku.ca.
    • Mental Health Supports – Student Counselling, Health and Well-Being has counsellors and group supports for students looking for mental health resources. For support in the evenings, on weekends or anytime, KeepMeSafe is a free service available 24/7 to all York students with online resources and supports as well as a phone line to connect to a mental health professional in your region. If you are in Ontario, Good2Talk is a free, confidential service available to all Ontario post-secondary students 24/7. More information on services available through all these resources is available on the Student Counselling, Health and Well-Being page.
    • Academic Advising – For questions about your courses, taking a leave of absence (ie for supporting family, health reasons, etc), or anything related to your academics, please connect with your Faculty’s Academic Advising office.
    • Visa and Immigration – We have International Student Advisor and Immigration Specialists who can help answer your visa questions.  We hold Drop-In Advising sessions 2-3 times each week.  Please see the York International Events Calendar to sign up for a session that works for you.
    • Community Events – York hosts many events, both virtual and in-person, for students to connect with each other and build community.  Check out the York International Events CalendarStudent Community and Leadership Development’s Events, and the York Events Calendar for more info on in-person and virtual events.

Supports available for anyone impacted by invasion of Ukraine

We recognize that finances may be a serious barrier for these applicants and students. The university will waive up to all of the 2022-23 tuition fees for any Ukrainian Study Permit holders who are suffering financial hardship due to the war. We will also provide funding to support living costs for all incoming Ukrainian students and current Ukrainian students in need during the 2022-23 academic year.

York University is offering financial assistance and mental health support to students whose studies are being disrupted by the war in Ukraine.

Current graduate and undergraduate students whose financial circumstances have been affected due to the war can receive assistance through the emergency grants program. Support will also be offered through tuition deferrals for the summer and fall semester, with students asked to contact their registrars for details.

Each student’s situation will be evaluated on a case-by-case basis to determine the type and nature of support needed.

If you have additional questions or concerns, please contact York International at intlstudentquestions@yorku.ca.
