As a new student to York University you will need to register in courses. At York, all course selection is done online through your Passport York account. If you have not activated your account yet, you will need to do this before choosing your courses. Please refer to the information below for a general overview of how to enrol in courses at York University.
Activating Your Passport York Account
At York, all course selection is done online through your Passport York account. If you have not activated your account yet, you will need to do this before choosing your courses. Passport York is York University’s secure online portal that will allow you to access York University’s online services and tools. Logging in to your Passport York account is York University’s primary method of online authentication, and will be used frequently while you study at York.
Your Passport York account will allow you to:
- Select courses
- Review grades
- Review/renew library loans
- View you student financial account
- Check your enrolment date
- Download your T2202 tax form
- Change your address and contact information
- Vote in York elections with EVote
- …and much more
Steps to Activate your Passport York account:
- Click on the "New Student Sign Up" link.
- You will be asked to enter your student number (your student number is listed on your offer of admission) and date of birth.
- Follow the steps provided.
- You will be asked to give yourself a Passport York username and password. Make sure you remember these. You may want to write them down until you memorize them. From this point on you will use your new Passport York username and password.
Reset Your Passport York Password:
- Click on the "Reset My Passport York Password" link.
- Enter your student number and date of birth.
- Or visit the helpdesk counter at the Computing Commons, located in the William Small Centre, with a piece of photo ID.
NOTE: You can only sign up for a Passport York Account once. If at any time you forget your username or password you cannot sign up for a new account. You will need to follow the instructions on this page for resetting your password or looking up your username.
Course Enrolment : Undergraduate
After you have accepted your offer of admission, and depending on your program of choice, you may be required to book a distance enrolment/course selection appointment OR complete your enrolment/course selection online.
For all new undergraduate students at York, participation in enrolment/course selection support means you will:
- Get help picking your courses and planning your academic schedule.
- Find out what transfer credit you’re eligible for.
- Learn how to enrol in courses.
- Find out how and when to pay your tuition fees.
How to get started
If you have accepted your offer, log in to MyFile and select “Book/manage my enrolment appointment.”
If you see “Book/Manage” in the Advising column beside your program name, you are required to book a distance enrolment/course selection appointment (online appointment). Click the link provided there and follow the instructions. This is available to students in the Lassonde School of Engineering, Faculty of Science, Nursing students, some Liberal Arts & Professional Studies programs, and students not entering York directly from high school.
If you see “Learn When your Online Course Enrolment Begins” in the Advising column beside your program name, you will complete your enrolment/course selection online. Click the link provided there and follow the instructions. This means your program is part of the YU START a summer long new student transition program to help prepare you for university studies. YU START is for newly admitted high school students entering programs in the following Faculties: Fine Arts, Environmental Studies, Health, and Liberal Arts & Professional Studies (most programs)

Note: Because many courses are popular and fill quickly, it is important that you select your courses promptly after the registration period begins. Since registration periods vary depending on faculty, year of study and other factors, visit York’s online ‘Registration and Enrolment Guide' to see when your registration period begins.
Course Enrolment : Graduate
All newly admitted and continuing graduate students at York University are responsible for being familiar with and registering and paying fees in accordance with Faculty of Graduate Studies and University policies, deadlines and procedures. By the act of registration each student becomes bound by the policies and regulations of York University, including the Faculty in which the student is registered.
