Tax Filing for International Students!
As an international student in Canada, you can file your taxes or take advantage of certain tax credits. North York Community House (NYCH) will offer phone/virtual tax filing for international students:
Tax Filing Individual Appointments for International Students
Date & Time: April 12, 2023 from 10 a.m. - 3 p.m. (40 minute slots for individuals and 1 hour for married couples)
Location: Online (Tax Clinic Staff will contact you through email or phone number)
Please register to book your appointment to file your taxes. By registering, you are providing consent to York International to share your contact details on file with the Tax Clinic Staff. Please ensure your contact details are updated.
***There are limited appointments available, if you miss your appointment, we cannot accommodate a reschedule.
For your appointment, you must have the following items ready prior to your appointment start time:
- Two pieces of government issued photo ID (Passports, drivers licence, etc.)
- SIN number
- Direct deposit information if filing for the first time (3 digit financial institution number, 5 digit branch transit number and individual’s account number)
- Medical expenses receipts if you have spent money from your pocket for prescription medications
- Letter from landlord stating total rent paid for 2022 or property tax bill if residing in own house
- Exact date of arrival for newcomers
- For newcomers, total income earned in Canadian dollars for the part of the year that they worked in home country (or any other country)
- Most recent CRA notice of assessment 2021 (this is not applicable if filing for the first time)
- All tax information slips such as T4, T4A, T5007, etc, if applicable
- Tuition fees paid receipt (T2202A), Bursaries, scholarship received (T4A) if student. Tax slips related to York University can be found on this SFS website..
Important Note: When you book your appointment, this time is considered confirmed and final. For your appointment, you must have ALL documents and information ready before your appointment begins. NYCH staff cannot accommodate late arrivals or longer appointments so you must be ready to go for your appointment. NYCH is not authorized to file income tax returns for those who earned business income or contract income.
