Curious to know how international students thrive in their chosen field after graduation? Have questions about the real world and the job market? Join this panel discussion to hear from former international students about their Canadian career experiences in business and sociology!

The panel discussion will focus on navigating the “real world” as international alumni, tips and tricks that helped them find success, and more! The panel discussion will be followed by an open forum where students will have an opportunity to ask the panelists their own questions.

Meet the Panelists!

Fikayo Aderoju
Founder and Executive Director at Project Impacting Lives
BA 2022, Economics

Fikayo is an exceptional global speaker and accomplished leader in the community building and youth development space. As the Founder and Executive Director of Project Impacting Lives, he has dedicated the past four years to creating positive change in the lives of those facing homelessness in Canada.

Under his leadership, the organization has successfully provided over 1,500 winter care packages to people facing homelessness, created scholarship funds, organized toy drives, and distributed food to the community. In 2022, he made history as the youngest executive ever in the 25-year history of the Canadian Association of Urban Financial Professionals (CAUFP), where he served as the Director of Youth Engagement.

His impact has been recognized through various awards and accomplishments, including being selected as one of the Top 30 Youth Changemakers in Canada and was the 2023 Diana Award Recipient for social action and humanitarian efforts.

Samir Janmohamed
Policy and Public Affairs Specialist at Ontario Chamber of Commerce
BA 2018, Economics and International Development Studies

Born and raised in Tanzania, Samir came to Canada as an international student from Tanzania to pursue a degree in Economics and International Development Studies. During his time at York, he spent a year abroad at the University of Nottingham and the London School of Economics. Following graduation, he actively volunteered with the Ontario Council for International Cooperation.

He later went on to serve as a political staffer for a federal Member of Parliament developing communications materials, handling constituent issues and community outreach throughout the pandemic. Most recently, he joined the Ontario Chamber of Commerce as a Policy and Public Affairs specialist.

Outside of work, he has been an advocate for affordable and accessible public transportation in Toronto, driving him to his current role as Transit Lead for the Toronto Youth Cabinet (TYC). He has previously served as an Ally on the Ontario Council for International Cooperation’s Youth Policy Hub and is an active volunteer within the Ismaili Community.

Shivam Nagpal
Manager, Reporting & Insights at RBC

Shivam came to Canada as an international student in 2019 to pursue a degree in Finance. During his time at York, he worked as a Client Services Representative in the Athletics & Recreation department and was the President and Co-founder of the Association for Business and Data Analytics (ABDA).

He started at RBC as an internship student and held roles including Operations Agent, Student Ambassador, Reconciliation Officer, and Business Analyst. Upon completion, he transitioned into a full-time role as the Manager, Reporting & Insights.

He has held multiple jobs that have shaped his personality and career. He explained that moving to Canada has been a rollercoaster journey! He is looking forward to helping current international students.
