What is a thesis proposal? How is it different from other forms of proposal writing? How do you go about describing your research, framing your argument and structuring your writing in a clear and effective manner? Join our virtual workshop, facilitated by the Writing Centre's graduate specialist, Dr. Keith O'Regan, where you will learn how to craft a thesis proposal by going over examples and learning key strategies and tips on format, audience, and style.

By the end of this session, you will be able to:

  • Understand the purpose of proposal writing including the format, style and components.
  • Identify the tools, services and support available through the Writing Centre and how to access them
  • Learn about the differences and commonalities between thesis and grant proposal writing through analysis of examples.

About the workshop facilitator:

Dr. O’Regan is the Writing Centre’s graduate writing specialist. Each term, he organizes the PhD Writer’s Café, an eleven-week program supporting LA&PS PhD writers. The PhD Writer’s Café provides students with support—both academic and social—to help address the unique challenges dissertation writers face. The Café is a synchronous session that normally runs every fall, winter, and summer term. In this space, PhD students strategize about graduate writing and students meet with Dr. O’Regan to discuss their writing, whether that be a proposal, a chapter, or an entire draft.
