Our third future launch workshop series, International Student Alumni Fireside Chat will provide exclusive networking opportunities with recent YorkU international alumni. Join us at this in-person event to learn more about how these international alumni found success after graduation. The panel discussion will focus on navigating the 'real world' as international alumni, tips and tricks that helped them find success, and more. This is a great opportunity to learn more about these international alumni's backgrounds and experiences as they went from being a YorkU student to transitioning into successful careers.


Nathaly Minda BA ’19 (Business Economics, Glendon College)- Associate at RBC Dominion Securities:

Nathaly MindaNathaly Minda is an Associate at RBC Dominion Securities. She began her career at Questrade where given her communication and leadership skills, she progressed to more senior positions, including Sales Supervisor.

Her drive to make a meaningful difference in people’s lives, motivated her to dive into the wealth management industry. As an Associate at RBC Dominion Securities, she provides access to a comprehensive range of financial services to help clients build and protect their wealth.

Nathaly Minda graduated from Glendon – York University with an Honours Bachelor of Arts in Business Economics (’19).

As a former international student, she understands the struggle of navigating the corporate world in a new country. During her free time, Nathaly enjoys networking and mentoring current students and newcomers to help them navigate their career journey in Canada.

Abasifreke James BENG ’18 (Software Engineering, Lassonde) – Co-Founder and Product Lead at Poket:

Abasifreke JamesJames is a Black Senior Software Engineer and tech-entrepreneur. So far in his career, he’s worked for the Canadian Government, managing the QA processes for over 100+ concurrent projects and worked as a Software Consultant for various large multi-national Telecom, Aviation, Health, and Automobile Companies. In recent years, he also delved deeper into blockchain development, developing innovative solutions for banks and fintech companies, and even government security agencies.

He is Nigerian by background and is very passionate about solving socio-economic issues that he got intimately familiar with while living in Nigeria for 16 years. Hence his passion to work on the problems his startup, POKET, is solving.

Lastly, James recently received the Top 30 Under 30 Developer Award in 2018 for Canada. He has a heart for teaching software programming and real-world applications especially in entrepreneurship within the Black community!

Tarnem Affify BSC ’21 (Biophysics, Faculty of Science) – AI Project Manager at the Vector Institute

Tarnem is a dedicated professional with an enthusiasm for harnessing artificial intelligence (AI) to create a meaningful impact on society. She holds a Bachelor of Science in Biophysics from York University and is currently furthering her education by pursuing a Master of Management in Artificial Intelligence at the Schulich School of Business. Her academic efforts have been recognized with the prestigious Schulich Artificial Intelligence Award & Vector Institute Scholarship in AI.

Currently, Tarnem is gaining valuable experience as an AI Project Manager intern at the Vector Institute, where she focuses on practical AI applications to enhance business performance. During her undergraduate studies, she broadened her research skills across various fields, including Astrophysics, Biophysics, and Medical Biophysics - Imaging Techniques.

Tarnem's unwavering commitment to fostering positive change and societal betterment has earned her a place among York University's Top 30 Alumni Under 30. In addition to her academic and research pursuits, she is an advocate for diversity and inclusion within STEM fields. She took the initiative to found and lead the Future Women in Physics Society at York University and has actively participated in organizations such as the Canadian Association of Physicists and the International Association of Physics Students.

Driven by her dedication to positive change, Tarnem remains committed to leveraging AI to improve society as a whole.
