Can I defer my in-person exchange to the 2022-23 Academic Year?

If you got an exchange acceptance letter, you can defer your exchange to the 2022-23 by checking the “Switch to 2022-23” box on the form.

Your acceptance will transfer to the following year, but you will need to complete a new application form for the 2022-23 year. We will contact you with the details in the Fall 2021 Semester.

I am going into my final year in 2022-23, can I still go on exchange?

Yes, but please keep in mind that if you would like to graduate in the year that you go on exchange, it would be best to go on exchange in the fall semester. If you decide to go for two semesters, the earliest you’ll be able to graduate is October 2023. Please note that October convocation ceremonies are only held at the Keele Campus.

I am an iBA/iBSc student, and I must complete a study abroad program, what should I do?

You will need to discuss the options with your Faculty/Program, contact goglobal@yorku.ca for more information.

I am a graduate student hoping to do my field work abroad in the 2022-23 Academic Year. Can I go abroad?

Graduate students planning fieldwork or research abroad will have their requests assessed on a case-by-case basis. Contact goglobal@yorku.ca.

I was accepted to go on exchange in 2020-21 and deferred my exchange, what should I do now?

Your acceptance stands as it was transferred to 2021-22, and you should have received a confirmation email for 2021-22. If you deferred your exchange to Fall 2021, here are some options for you to consider:

  • Complete a remote academic exchange in Fall 2021 if available at your host University
  • Defer your exchange to in-person in Winter 2022
  • Defer your exchange to in-person in 2022-23
Exchange applicants who have indicated they would like to start their exchange in Fall 2021 will be contacted by the Global Learning Team to discuss options, given the new travel guidelines.

Should I enroll in courses at York for the 2021-22 Academic Year if I am hoping to go on exchange?

Yes, we strongly encourage you to enroll in courses at York for the upcoming year. This is to ensure that you have a place in your desired classes should an exchange not happen for any of the reasons listed above. You can drop your York courses and enroll in your exchange course once your exchange is fully confirmed. Be sure to monitor the add/drop deadlines.

More information on add/drop deadlines can be found here: https://registrar.yorku.ca/enrol/dates

My question was not answered, can I speak to someone?
