ITALY

Organization The Gori Collection of Site-Specific Art
Location Santomato di Pistoia, Italy
Number of Placements 1
URL www.goricoll.it
Position Description Most of the interns’ time and responsibility concerns conducting guided visits to the Collection. Guiding the tours is definitely a task for students with good “people skills”: we receive groups from the general public as well as from such highly-qualified visitors as artists, museum directors, professors, and journalists, often from all over the world. Their presence represents a rare opportunity to enter into personal contact with operators in the fields of contemporary art and culture. Visits last about 4-5 hours, are conducted in English and Italian and can sometimes be held as often as 5-6 times a week. The intern must be well-disposed towards a bilingual experience, physically fit, healthy and enjoy walking & learning about art as well as being with people. When interns are not conducting visits, we may ask help in proof-reading texts, handling visit correspondence and phone calls. Such secondary job responsibilities depend on the intern’s aptitude, good will and the amount of time available for extra training. In such a small organization as ours, the things to do range from the (only) seemingly inconsequential to the highly important. In general interns are essential for the smooth running of the busy visiting season; interested and responsible students may be invited to participate in special projects involving office or archive work.
